Creating a Healthier Lifestyle with a Cholesteral Diet
It has been a well known fact that excess weight in poor for your health. It is also well known that for those that are in need of lowering cholesterol levels, that they need to go on a cholesteral diet. Lowering cholesterol levels can truly benefit individuals and extend their quality of life.
It is important to understand what cholesterol is. Cholesterol is a fatty substance that is generated in the liver. It is healthy to have cholesterol in the body. As a matter of fact, every cell in the body has cholesterol in it. Without cholesterol, the body would not function properly. Sometimes, however, an individual may consume too much cholesterol. When this occurs, there is an overabundance of cholesterol in the blood stream, which can block arteries, and lead to serious health issues.
It is understandable how a cholesteral diet can benefit those that are at a serious health risk. Many physicians will place their patients on a strict diet regimen as a means of loosing weight, and lowering cholesterol levels. A cholesteral diet is often very low in meats and dairy, as that is where there is a lot of cholesterol hidden in the foods. Being on a cholesteral diet does not mean that foods that are loved must be obsolete.
It simply means that the dieter needs to be aware of which foods that are high in fat will also be high in cholesterol. Over half of the American population alone has high cholesterol levels due to the high fat diets that they consume, and the lack of exercise. Exercising and staying active is also important for a cholesteral diet. Exercising can increase the heart rate, generating sweat and the excretion of fat and cholesterol. A cholesteral diet will often mention that there is a call for exercising. Exercising will lower the bad cholesterol, known as LDL cholesterol, while raising good cholesterol levels, known as HDL cholesterol.
Additional factors that some people may not take into consideration with a cholesteral diet are drinking and smoking habits. The consumption of alcohol is not only dangerous to the body but can lead to increased cholesterol levels. Since the alcohol must degenerate in the liver, where cholesterol is regulated, there is an automatic increase to cholesterol levels after consumption.
Should an individual already have high cholesterol levels, the addition of alcohol will only create more symptoms of high cholesterol levels. As much, smokers will often find that they will have to go on a cholesteral diet, too. Smoking greatly increases cholesterol levels. Not only is smoking dangerous to the lungs, it is also linked to heart disease. Therefore, stopping smoking for a cholesteral diet will be highly beneficial.
A cholesteral diet, contrary to popular belief, does not have to be boring. There are many variations to foods that can be created to keep meals fun and tasteful to the palette. Committing to a cholesteral diet is indeed one of the healthiest choices that a man or woman can choose.
