Staying Healthy and Fit with a Low Cholesterol Diet

Cholesterol is one of the leading factors for heart disease in American adults. There are many ways to avoid high cholesterol, aside from exercising. A low cholesterol diet is one of the best ways that an individual can regulate their cholesterol.

When people think of a low cholesterol diet, they may think that all of the foods that they are going to eat will be bland and full of fiber. This is far from the truth. A low cholesterol diet can be full of flavor and rich in much needed nutrients. As a matter of fact, a low cholesterol diet is not only one of the healthiest ways to maintain a positive lifestyle, but is also one of the most creative venues for meals.

With a low cholesterol diet, dieters can concoct new meals from fresh herbs and spices, all the while making adjustments to their new eating habits. Instead of having a meal that is full of high cholesterol, new foods can be introduced, such as steamed vegetables, which are full of fiber and nutrients. There are two types of cholesterol: the “good” cholesterol, and the “bad” cholesterol. The good cholesterol is needed for the body to regulate properly. The liver regulates cholesterol levels, and which can be inundated with bad cholesterol. The liver, although able to differentiate the two, can not rid of all bad cholesterol, and therefore, must store it. This is when it is up to the dieter to take care of the cholesterol levels, and go on a low cholesterol diet.

One of the main reasons, aside from weight issues, that it is important to go on a low cholesterol diet is to maintain healthy arteries. The arty walls can become clogged with bad cholesterol waste, which can lead to heart disease and/or a stroke. When the arteries are clogged with bad cholesterol, the blood and oxygen in the arteries can not flow freely, and is therefore difficult to move around the body. This is why it is imperative for adults to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

Low cholesterol diets may be designated for adults to go on as a result of their doctor’s care. Many physicians, especially cardiologists, will relate to their patients that it is important to lose weight, as it can affect their conditions even more. There are many low cholesterol diets that are available for the public, such as the Atkins diet, and the South Beach Diet. Both diets have proven to be successful low cholesterol diets. These diets are often available online, as well as bookstores.

A low cholesterol diet does not have to be mundane and hard to follow.  With the help of family, friends, and physicians, a low cholesterol diet can be easily achieved. Many people will find that they can live a fuller and healthier life when they have a healthy diet and active lifestyle. A healthier life is a longer life when following a low cholesterol diet.
