Losing Weight Sensibly with the South Beach Diet

As America’s waistline’s grow, so does the popularity in diets. There are many diets that are available for dieters to try. Over the last three years, one of the most popular diets to take the nation by a healthy eating storm is the south beach diet.

The south beach diet comes in book form. The proper title of the south beach diet is “The South Beach Diet: The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss”. The main reason why the south beach diet has been so extremely popular is due mainly in part to the fact that the diet was created by a Miami cardiologist, Dr. Arthur Agaston. Dr. Agaston created the south beach diet for his overweight patients as a means to improve their health and lower the possibilities of further cardio-logical damages to the patient. The south beach diet proved to be a huge success for his patients as many of his patients saw the pounds flying off of them, and their health was taking a dramatic positive turn for the first time in a long period.

Although Dr. Agaston created the diet for his patients, he soon turned his diet into a book, which created quite a buzz in the dieting industry. Men and women young and old were all taking part of the south beach diet, and were creating positive lifestyle changes. The book, which was released in 2003, soon shot up to the best selling book on many lists, which only added to the popularity of the diet.

The south beach diet is broken down into three general “phases”. Phase one of the south beach diet mandates that for the first two weeks of the diet, all pastries, rice, bread, potatoes, pasta, sugar and fruit are absent from one’s diet. This is to regulate the body to differentiate the “good” carbs from the “bad” carbs (as found in the eliminated foods). After the two week cycle, phase two goes into effect.  The previously banned foods are slowly added back into the diet, and in very small portions. The main idea of the south beach diet is to train the body to control which foods (in this instance, the “good” carbs) are to stay in the body, and which ones to be regulated as much as possible.

The south beach diet has created thousands of pounds lost for individuals all over the world. There is an online website for the south beach diet, which acts not only as an informative soundboard, but as a source of support for those that are loosing weight. The south beach diet is a way for dieters to lose weight and gain confidence and friends, as well as a healthier lifestyle. The south beach diet is by no means a fad, and should not be seen as such. Consulting a physician before beginning any diet is important, especially for those that may have important medical conditions. The south beach diet is gaining new followers every day, and making healthier lifestyle changes for all
